I had a wonderful experience taking the glucose test this week. I drank the sweet-tasting orange drink in the morning and then headed over to the doctor’s office for the blood test. The concoction was not as bad as I thought it would be, nor was it as bad as most people say. It must be because I am just loving sugar and sweets these days. I just can’t get enough junk food or carbs. Needless to say, it showed as soon as I stepped on the scale. This time I got a warning from the doctor to slow down my eating and to cut white flour, sugared drinks, juice and soda from my diet. He said that if I didn’t I could expect to have to push out a 9-pound baby. Ugh! I had gained 9 pounds from my last visit and a total of 18 in 2 months. I must say I was shocked and horrified. I don’t drink soda or coffee, but some of those flavored waters are high in carbohydrates. And cookies and all the other junk certainly didn’t help my diet. I do love pasta and bread, but I just need to eat more whole-wheat pasta and bread, and more whole grains. I will certainly try. It just doesn’t help that I have to get through Thanksgiving and all the holidays. It was much easier being pregnant in the summer. My glucose test was fine and the hemoglobin test came out perfect as well. The doctor felt my stomach and was able to determine that the baby’s head is down. I heard the fabulous sound of the heartbeat, and that put a huge smile on my face. When he left, he wished me a Happy Thanksgiving and then told me to starve. He was the one who left with a huge smile on his face. Although I know he was joking, I do have to watch my food intake and have much more discipline regarding sugars and carbs.
